Jean Grey's 80's and 90's Phoenix hints, stories and manifestations

In the Phoenix Rising storyline (The Avengers #263, Fantastic Four #286, and X-Factor #1), a mysterious cocoon is found and it is emanating powerful Phoenix energies and psychic energies.  Jean Grey hatches.  She relives her encounter with the Phoenix Force on the shuttle when she touches the Shiar Holo-Empathic Crystal.  She learns that her soul was imbued into the s Phoenix Force creating the Jean Grey-Phoenix being.  It was her humanity that defeated the Dark Phoenix.

Avengers #263.

Fantastic Four #286.

In X-Factor #6,  Jean Grey protects herself from the mutant Stinger's electric bolts by using a telekinetic shield.  As the bolts spray off her shield, there is a Phoenix effect.  The implication is that her invisible telekinetic shield may have been naturally taking the shape of the Phoenix.  Cyclops notices the Phoenix effect.

In X-Factor #8, Destiny says that Jean is a nexus of probabilities and thus she cannot read her future. This nexus is likely due to Jean's connection to the Phoenix and because Jean's soul/consciousness had been split among several individuals and one portion even died and was reborn.

In X-Factor #24, Apocalypse says that he can show Jean the spark within herself that can grow to consume all, seemingly a hint about the Phoenix.

In X-Factor #30, Destiny again says that Jean is an anomaly as if she has been displaced in time and space.

X-Factor Annual #3 has a pin up at the end with X-Factor Jean with the Phoenix effect.  This was published in 1988.

In Marvel Comics Presents #15, Jean battles against a Morlock with the power of astral projection who has assumed the form of the Phoenix.  During the battle, Jean inadvertently creates a Phoenix effect of her own with her pink psychic energy.

In Mephisto v. X-Factor, a distraught Jean Grey makes a pact with Mephisto and he takes her to the underworld.  When she is restored, she ascends in flames.  When other characters were restored in the story, they did not have a fire effect around them.  Mephisto even mentions how she had once been thought to be a Phoenix.

In Uncanny X-Men #215, Jean Grey's clone, Madelyne Pryor remembers surviving a plane crash with the Phoenix effect around her.  Later it is revealed that Mr. Sinister and perhaps the Phoenix Force itself tampered with her memories.

In Uncanny X-Men #238, Jean Grey's clone, Madelyne Pryor manifests on the astral plane as a little girl with the Phoenix in her eyes.  It is the prelude to Inferno.

In Uncanny X-Men #241, it is revealed that Madelyne Pryor was brought to life by a spark of the Phoenix Force and a portion of Jean Grey's soul and consciousness.  She has shared memories with Jean including the Annie incident.

In X-Factor #38, Jean interacts with and absorbs a spark of the Phoenix and regains the portion of her soul and consciousness that had merged with the Phoenix Force to create the Jean Grey-Phoenix/Dark Phoenix being and later led to the creation of Madelyne Pryor.  Jean also absorbs Madelyne's memories.

In Uncanny X-Men #243, Jean claims the memories of Madelyne and Phoenix as her own and manifests the Phoenix on the astral plane against Mr. Sinister.

During the Judgment War storyline (X-Factor #43-#50), Jean struggles with the personalities of Madelyne and the Phoenix and uses the spark of the Phoenix Force to help defeat a Celestial.

X-Factor #43
X-Factor #46
X-Factor #50

In Uncanny X-Men #273, Jean manifests a Phoenix effect while fighting the Shadow King on the Astral Plane.  At this time she only had telekinesis, so her powers were not effective against the Shadow King.

In X-Factor #65, Jean is attacked by Psynapse.  His psychic attack makes her relive the Annie incident and her telepathy once again reawakens.  Psynapse encounters something powerful, glowing, and frightening in Jean's mind.  Is it the Phoenix?  In his Apocalypse Files, Apocalypse wonders if Jean could become the Phoenix Force again.  Will she unleash the terrible energies within her?

In X-Factor #67, Jean once again embraces the Phoenix memories as her own.

In Uncanny X-Men #308, Scott and Jean reflect on the Phoenix and how it was Jean's humanity that took control and ended Dark Phoenix's life.  Jean remembers it from the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix perspective and Scott implies that while her body was in the cocoon, her consciousness was struggling with the Phoenix.

In X-Men #46, Jean tells Iceman that the Phoenix was the ultimate extension of her abilities.

In X-Men #53, Jean manifests the Phoenix effect while fighting Onslaught on the Astral Plane. Onslaught wants her to embrace the Phoenix Force and to be who she truly is.

In X-Men #70, Jean levitates an injured Scott down to the mansion as her pink telekinetic energy takes the form of the Phoenix effect.
In X-Men #71, Jean does some psychometric house-cleaning and attacks Bastion's essence with a flock of little psychic phoenixes.
In Uncanny X-Men #352, Jean searches the globe with her telepathy and without Cerebro.  Her psychic representation grows from a lark to an eagle to a vulture, but her transformation is interrupted.  Later there is a firebird free in her mind, but it is not shown on panel-- just described in text.

In Uncanny X-Men #353, Jean uses her telekinesis to move the snow away from the house, leaving the pattern of the Phoenix symbol.
In Uncanny X-Men #354, Jean once again wears the Phoenix costume.
In Uncanny X-Men #355, Jean manifests the Phoenix effect and embraces her powers.
In Uncanny # 356, Scott confides in Beast that he is worried about Jean and what she is capable of.  He compares her to Xavier, Mastermind, and Nate Grey.  He seems to doubt the notion that the Phoenix simply mirrored Jean's form.

In Uncanny X-Men #357, Jean's powers begin to look more fiery and a small phoenix symbol manifests at her head.

In Wolverine #125 and #126, Jean continues to manifest the Phoenix effect while under the control of Viper and afterwards.

In Contest of Champions #3, Jean manifests the Phoenix effect in her fight against Justice.

In Astonishing X-Men (mini series) #2, Jean manifests the Phoenix effect while helping and healing one of the Mannites.

In Uncanny X-Men #375, in a psychic illusion meant to test the X-Men, Xavier's relationship to Onslaught is seemingly compared to Jean's relationship to the Phoenix.

In X-Men #97, Jean and Scott battle Apocalypse.  As Scott prepares to sacrifice himself, he reflects on how Jean once made the leap to the cosmic stage on her own and for the noblest reasons.

In X-Men Unlimited #26, the X-Men are transported to various alternate realities in the Ages of Apocalypse storyline.  In this issue, Jean and Lady Mastermind create an illusion of Dark Phoenix's return.
